Farm Injuries

Farms are one of the most important pieces of these United States. Without the crops provided by our farmers, there is no way for the rest of the country to do anything. Unfortunately, farming can also be very dangerous. On a small scale, farming involves hand tools, but on the large scale to which most farms operate, there is at least some heavy machinery.

Farming machinery is one of the leading causes of injury and death on farms. Unfortunately, this applies not only to the people who operate the machines, but also to people who might be around them. This means that if there happens to be a child around the farm, that child could become severely injured.

In Ontario, Canada, there was a study to research the incidence of children being injured or killed on farms. Over a period of 15 years, there were around one hundred farm related deaths of children. Most of these were work related, but around one fifth of them were not.

In addition to the deaths, there were 262 hospitalizations for the same reason. These numbers, however, only apply to children in Ontario. Over the years, there have been a great many deaths and injuries caused by farming equipment. These occur even today, and afflict both adults and children.
