According to a witness at a collision between a Metropolitan Transit Authority light rail train and a bicyclist Friday, the accident was entirely preventable. Mark Vance, who was riding on the light rail at the time of the collision, said that the female bicyclist who was hit was plainly visible, yet the train conductor neither slowed down nor hit the warning horn. Metro officials appear to agree with the assessment that the accident was preventable, and said that an investigation was ongoing.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was hospitalized with possibly a broken kneecap, as well as some minor injuries.

In a recent reversal of policy, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that the established two-year time limit during which those suffering from toxic chemical or substance exposure were required to file suit does not begin “counting down” until symptoms actually appear.
