The value of market shares of Taser International, Inc. fell recently after the company was found to be 15% responsible for a man’s death after a Taser was used on him.  The jury’s decision resulted in a $1.02 million compensatory damages charge against the company, as well as $5.2 million in punitive damages, based on a negligent failure to warn.  This suit is the first one that Taser International has lost in 71 total lawsuits.

McDonald’s Customer Sues after Fall Accident

A McDonald’s customer, Carlton Carrier, sued after he slipped on a freshly mopped floor while holding his coffee.   Carrier broke his hip because of the accident in a Texas location.    According to the plaintiff, no warning signs were put out and he was not provided with a verbal warning about the slippery status of the nearby flooring.

The injury caused Carrier excruciating pain and he expects continued diminishing quality of life over the rest of his life.   Current medical bills from the accident total about $60,000 and Carrier expects to have anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000 in future expenses.

Serious Dog Attack Injures Woman

A New Zealand woman was recently attacked by a dog she was looking after while its owner was in prison.  The 33 year old woman was mauled by the animal and suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries.  The attack was unprovoked.  Because the woman was in possession of the animal, no lawsuit will be filed against the incarcerated owner.

This attack follows a serious mauling of a two year old boy in Auckland within the last week.   The dog, owned by the toddler’s father, was killed after the incident.

Musicians sue Emilio’s Company for Personal Injury

Musicians Daniel Sandoval and Pedro Ramirez are suing Tejano music star Emilio Navaira III’s company for personal injuries after their tour bus crashed in Houston, Texas.  The accident almost took the life the star, better known to his fans as Emilio, as well as injuring the two musicians.  While Emilio was driving, he crashed their tour bus into a set of barrels on Houston’s Southwest Freeway.  Emilio was driving with a blood alcohol content level of .19%, which is more than twice the legal limit in Texas law.
