Generators Injure Residents, Kill 4-yr old

Posted on Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 3:09 am

In Houston, Texas, over 40 people were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning or burns caused by generators. The use of gas powered generators can produce a great deal of carbon monoxide, and when used in an enclosed or partially enclosed spaces like garages, sheds or basements, can easily build up to dangerous levels.

In Houston, Hurricane Ike led people to use their generators incorrectly, injuring more than 40 people, and killing a 4 year old boy. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious problem that can be difficult to detect. Symptoms may mimic the flu and may cause headache, nausea, and sleepiness.

4-year-old Drowning Victim Identified

Posted on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 4:09 am

A 4-year-old boy who drowned this past Monday in the San Diego community of Chula Vista has, at last, been identified.

The Medical Examiner’s office has announced that the body belonged to Jhovan Peralta.  According to reports, other swimmers found Peralta floating in the pool and pulled him from the water.  They began performing CPR and called for medical help.

An ambulance arrived and took Peralta to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center where, an hour after his arrival, he was pronounced dead.

Neither officials nor the individuals who found Peralta in the pool have any idea how long he had been in the water before he was found, nor do they know the cause of his accident.
