April 27 through May 3 is Rail Safety Week. As part of the week, safety information about railroads is becoming more readily available. Some railroad officials in Fond du Lac even handed out safety information in the subway.

One of the press releases on the subject showed that there were 1,339 injuries and 744 fatalities in 2008 that occurred in railroad crossing trespassing incidents alone.

A high school student from the Waupun area was involved in a car surfing accident this morning. The boy was thrown from the hood a car in the school parking lot. Emergency crews responded around 7:15am after receiving a 911 call.

The boy hit his head on the concrete when he fell off the car. He was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, still conscious and speaking. There has been no word on his condition so far.

A Sheboygan man was injured after being hit by his own car early Tuesday morning. A friend was driving the man's car when he was struck at the intersection of South Ninth St and High Ave just after midnight.

The man was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center where he was treated for non life threatening injuries sustained in his head and leg. The crash is still under investigation.

A crash occurred on Sunday evening in which a car went airborne before striking a pole. A woman was travelling northbound on Blueberry Ln just south of Hwy 28 when she entered the east ditch and became airborne around 6:30pm. The car then struck a utility pole.

The woman was taken to Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center where she is being treated for life threatening injuries. If she recovers, she will likely be charged with fifth offense drunk driving.

In Kewaunee, an accident occurred on Monday afternoon involving a pickup truck and a school bus. At 3:27pm, a school bus stopped to let students off and was rear ended by a pickup just east of Birchwood Rd.

As a result of the crash, two of the students and the driver of the pickup had to be taken to a hospital in Green Bay. Another student was treated at the scene.

A crash occurred Tuesday on the south side of Sheboygan. Around 12:30pm, two cars collided along Weeden Creek Rd near Taylor Dr when a car pulling out of a parking lot failed to yield the right of way.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital after the crash. Both complained of back and neck pain. No one else was injured in the crash.
