What is umbrella insurance coverage?

Umbrella insurance is a type of liability insurance policy protection above the standard limits set on other policies. It is typically used to increase the liability limits of a number of policies by a certain amount.

For instance, if an insurance policy holder has both auto and home insurance and gets a one million dollar umbrella, then the limits of both the auto and home insurance will be increased by one million dollars.
