Verdugo Valley Skilled Nursing and Wellness Centre, a California nursing home was recently indicted on charges of neglect and abuse of one of its patients after he committed suicide.

According to the felony lawsuit brought against the nursing home, the 34-year-old man was admitted into the home in January 2009 and died just one month later. The man had a history of mental illness, and employees were instructed to give the man special care to ensure that he would not try to commit suicide. However, the man attempted suicide three times while staying at the home. On the third attempt, the man died.

A trial in the case is scheduled for September 6. If convicted of felony abuse and neglect, the home will lose its federal funding and license.
