Local teenager killed in pedestrian accident

Posted on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 at 6:21 pm

An 18 year-old high school student was killed this morning in Sheboygan.

The teenager was killed in pedestrian accident when a Department of Public Works leaf collection truck struck him on North Sixth Street and New York Avenue at around 8:50 am. He was on his way to school when the accident occurred.

Emergency responders say the man was unresponsive by the time he arrived. He died at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center from head and internal injuries about an hour later.

Sheboygan Police and State Patrol troopers will work on reconstructing the accident. It does not appear that other objects or cars were on the street that could have obstructed the driver’s or pedestrian’s view.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the young victim.

A Wisconsin doctor will spend five years behind bars after he plead guilty to four counts of second-degree sexual assault. The 49 year-old gastroenterologist from Marshfield admits he had sexually assaulted some of his female patients while they were unconscious.

Two years ago, a woman woke up from the effects of anesthesia to find the doctor touching her inappropriately. Other reports of assault date back to 2005. The man apologized for his actions and says he has seeking help.

He has also received ten years extended supervision. He must register as a sex offender, avoid alcohol and drugs, go to therapy, and cannot have access to patients at future workplaces.

Stunt rider killed on practice jump

Posted on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 at 8:50 pm

A professional motorcycle stunt rider was killed on Sunday morning when his motorcycle suffered mechanical failure and caused him to miss his landing.

32 year-old Jim “The Real Deal” McNeil was in Fort Worth on the Texas Motor Speedway practicing for an exhibition that would take place later that day. Witnesses say they heard the motorcycle sputtering during his jump. McNeil was taken to Fort Worth Hospital, where he died an hour later of severe blunt force trauma to his chest and neck.

McNeil competed in five X-Games and was a part of the Boost Mobile FMX team for nearly a decade. The tour manager for the event says deaths are very rare in the sport, and that this is the first death in fourteen years.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.

Widow wins settlement in 2001 anthrax attacks

Posted on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at 4:21 pm

The widow of a man who died during the 2001 anthrax attacks has been awarded an undisclosed amount in her wrongful death lawsuit against the United States government.

She claims the government acted negligently in securing the anthrax disease at a military laboratory. An investigation by the FBI concluded that an Army scientist was responsible for mailing anthrax-laced letters to senators and members of the media.

Her husband was the first of five people to die from the attacks. He was a tabloid photography editor and was exposed to the disease after a letter was sent to the publishing office of the National Enquirer.
