Woman killed in elevator accident

Posted on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 at 6:08 pm

A 41 year-old woman was killed this morning in a freak elevator accident in Manhattan. At around 10 am, the woman was walking into a first floor elevator when it suddenly began to ascend, crushing her between the elevator shaft and the car before it became stuck between the first and second floors.

Two people inside the elevator watched helplessly as the elevator continued to rise. They were taken to the hospital for psychological trauma.

An inspection by the New York City Department of Buildings over the summer showed that a defect was found in one of the elevators. An investigation will be conducted to find the malfunction that caused this terrible accident.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
