California Innovations, Inc. is voluntarily recalling almost 250,000 Ci Sport insulated lunch box sets for a potential chemical leak in the freezer gel packs.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company received two reports of dogs ingesting the freezer gel packs. One dog died while the other was able to recover. The gel packs contain diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which can be dangerous to humans.

The Ci Sport lunch box set came with the freezer gel packs and an aluminum bottle. The lunch boxes were sold at Costco, Leon Korol, and Cost U Less stores from May 2007 to September 2008. Consumers can return the lunch boxes to Costo for a free refund.

A registered sex offender is facing felony charges after he started working with young children in Superior.

The 31 year-old man was convicted of second degree sexual assault in 1998 and must stay on the registered sex offender list for life. A local pastor contacted the Superior Police Department after seeing the man in a story in the newspaper.

The pastor told authorities that the sex offender and his girlfriend would volunteer at the church and was often around little children. He is facing felony charges for failing to update his registry information, having a Facebook account under a false name, and volunteering at an elementary school event.

Millions of Ikea’s “Antilop” plastic high chairs are being recalled after the company received eight complaints worldwide of children falling out of the chair. Three children sustained minor injuries after their fall.

Nearly 169,000 of the “Antilop” high chairs sold in North America and 1.2 million in Europe are affected by the recall. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the belt restraint on the chair can unexpectedly become unbuckled, creating the falling hazard.

The “Antilop” high chair came in white, red, and blue plastic seats with removable silver legs. Consumers who have purchased the product should stop using it immediately and can bring it to any Ikea location for a free belt restraint replacement.

Starbucks Coffee Co. has been ordered by a San Diego Superior Court jury to pay $7.5 million to a man who slipped and fell on its premises.

The man was in a local Starbucks in 2008 when he slipped on the wet floor a store manager was mopping. He hit his head on the floor and has not been able to return to his job as a chiropractor since the fall.

Starbucks was found negligent in the maintenance of its property and will compensate the man for his lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, and medical bills. His wife will also receive $1 million for loss of consortium.
