The Fond du Lac Milk Specialties Co. plant has been fined for three safety violations stemming from a dust explosion that occurred last summer.

The fire and explosion started in a machine, which sent heavy smoke throughout the five-story building. OSHA has fined the company for a willful violation for dust combustible hazards and Milk Specialties Co. has been ordered to pay $72,000.

Milk Specialties Co., which converts liquid whey products into dry whey powder, denies an explosion ever occurred. Instead, it claims that a small piece of milk product began to smoulder and produce smoke. The company has 15 days to consent or appeal the citations.

A 26 year-old sex offender was arrested in Vernon County this week for violating his GPS boundaries set on his GPS bracelet.

The man was sentenced to three years in prison in 2007 after pleading guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a child. The owner of an Argentine mastiff that attacked a news anchor on the air has been cited for animal control for the accident. He was issued citations for failing to have the dog on a leash and not having the dog properly vaccinated.
