Most Wisconsin nursing home personal injury cases settled before court trials begin

Posted under Sheboygan nursing home neglect attorneys

Instead of being tried in court, more than half of the nearly 300 lawsuits filed against Wisconsin nursing homes since 1986 have settled before proceedings began, state records show.

Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation, which had been named in several lawsuits, got five settlements in Eau Claire County ,which included the Donald Burdick case in 2005, and the Allan Hanson and Robert Englebretson cases, both in 2006.

Lakeside was also able to avoid litigation in both Dorothy Friederich and Naomi Johnson’s cases in 2007.

Extendicare Health Facilities also settled a case filed against them by the estate of Delmer Swanson in Chippewa County prior to trial beginning in 2008.

Other nursing homes that settled out of official court proceedings were Dove Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation (2004), Aurora Residential Alternatives (2000), and Dove Healthcare West (2011).

All too often, nursing homes allow the abuse and neglect of residents to occur.
