The president of Shoreline Pools in Connecticut recently pled guilty to negligently causing the death of a 6-year-old boy who drowned in one of the company's pools in 2007.
During the trial, prosecutors claimed that the company failed to install a safety feature on the pool to prevent swimmers from becoming entrapped by the drain's suction. The young boy died after the suction of the drain caused him to become trapped under the water. Prosecutors argued that the company intentionally did not install the device as a way to save money.
The man avoided a 10 year prison sentence by pleading guilty in the case. He was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and ordered to pay $150,000 to various pool-safety organizations in the area.
