Eighty lawsuits were recently filed in Wisconsin on behalf of patients who suffered injuries from hip replacements that were manufactured by Johnson and Johnson Inc. and DePuy Orthopaedics Inc.
In August 2010, Johnson and Johnson issued a recall of the ASR XL Acetabular metal-on-metal hip replacements because they were found to deteriorate within five years. Approximately 93,000 people worldwide used the system and, of those 93,000, at least one in eight had hip replacement failure.
Patients who used the hip replacement system suffered injuries such as pain, metal sensitivity, infection, necrosis, swelling, and nerve and muscle damage.
