The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food & Drug Administration are investigating instances of food poisoning from Salmonella-contaminated ground turkey meat. The CDC claims the contamination started back in March and has since spread to 26 states, including Wisconsin. The outbreak is blamed for 1 death and 76 illnesses.
The FDA is investigating another Salmonella outbreak, this time with a strand found in papayas. 99 people in 23 states have fallen ill after eating papayas imported from Mexico by Agromod Produce, Inc. Two people in Wisconsin are reported to have fallen ill. Agromod has since recalled the fruit.
